The long-awaited third season of "The Witcher" is finally here, promising to continue the story of Geralt of Rivia, Ciri, Yennefer, and the other characters. But how successful is this new start? In the first five episodes of the season, there were highs and lows that dampened my enthusiasm a bit. Let's start with the positive aspects. Henry Cavill once again delivers an impressive performance as Geralt of Rivia. He embodies the role of the Witcher with an impressive presence, showcasing his full potential in both quiet dialogues and action-packed fight scenes. The rest of the ensemble also convinces with strong acting and contributes to the immersion. The fight choreographies in Season 3 are particularly spectacular and impressive. The staging of the battles is a true delight for the audience, and there are moments when you want to rewatch the scenes to experience the action again. The camera work is also remarkable and contributes to creating an atmospheric mood. Now, onto the negative points. The visual effects in Season 3 are unfortunately not always convincing. Some CGI effects appear less successful and reminiscent of older video game graphics. This is regrettable as it can affect the immersion. Additionally, the antagonists in the season are not sufficiently developed. Their plans and motivations often remain in the dark, leading to a lack of compelling villains.

Another criticism is the abrupt shifts in tone throughout the season. The series sometimes switches too quickly between serious and humorous scenes or from calm dialogues to spectacular moments. This change should be organic and seamless, but here it sometimes feels forced and inappropriate. The storyline in Season 3 is overloaded with numerous plotlines. While Netflix aims to expand "The Witcher" into an epic fantasy saga, the execution in the series feels overly ambitious. The plotlines are not always skillfully intertwined, and there is often a lack of time to adequately focus on individual characters and events. As a result, the depth and emotional impact of some scenes are lost. Another point of criticism is the logical inconsistencies in the plot. At certain points, the events are heavily manipulated to ensure that specific characters are in the right place at the right time. This can lead to a loss of credibility and sometimes feels implausible. Fans of the book series may be disappointed once again, as Season 3 also deviates from the original story. Some character developments and events have been changed or reinterpreted, which could cause dissatisfaction among die-hard fans.

All in all, it can be said that the third season of "The Witcher" has a rocky start. While there are moments that inspire and showcase the series' potential, there are also some weaknesses that cannot be overlooked. The visual effects and the execution of the plot could be improved to provide a more coherent and captivating experience. Nevertheless, the third season will surely satisfy fans of the series, especially those who have already immersed themselves in the world of "The Witcher." The strong performances by Henry Cavill and the rest of the ensemble, the impressive fight scenes, and the epic atmosphere still make the series worth watching. For new viewers, however, it might be challenging to dive into the complex world of "The Witcher" and follow the plotlines. It is recommended to familiarize oneself with the story beforehand to fully grasp the series' potential. In conclusion, Season 3 of "The Witcher" combines light and shadow. It offers both good and less successful aspects, but overall, it is an entertaining fantasy trip that leaves room for improvement.
