The film's plot largely follows the comic, in which the young shapeshifter Nimona assists the infamous villain Lord Ballister Blackheart in his evil plans. Unfortunately, the film fails to capture the emotional depth and charm of the characters from the comic, which made their connection so captivating. The relationship between Nimona and Blackheart remains superficial, lacking the development that made their bond in the comic so compelling. The characters' backstories are only superficially explored, lacking the necessary depth to fully understand their motivations and conflicts.

Treatment of Themes:

Another major flaw of the film is its treatment of the themes addressed in the comic. The comic stands out for its social commentary and subtle activism, tackling issues such as prejudice, societal expectations, and the abuse of power.
