Ryan Reynolds and Kevin Hart join Dwayne Johnson in Fast & Furious spinoff

We just learned that both Ryan Reynolds and Kevin Hart will be joining Dwayne Johnson in his recently announced Fast & Furious spinoff.

Yesterday, Dwayne Johnson confirmed he'll soon be starring in his own Fast & Furious spinoff, but he won't be alone. Trusted sources claim that both Ryan Reynolds and Kevin Hart have signed on to join The Rock in his standalone film. Both Reynolds and Hart had guest appearances in 2019's Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw and are expected to reprise those roles, but there is an additional question mark over Reynolds.

Loyal fans of Dom Toretto's "Family" will no doubt know that in Hobbs & Shaw it's Ryan Reynolds as CIA agent Victor Locke - an old friend who has a chilling obsession with The Rock's hero - who drives Hobbs recruited to work with Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham). It's only a guest appearance, but Reynolds ended up having another role in the film. He's the Deadpool star who gives the mysterious Eteon director his marching orders, leading some to speculate that Reynolds could potentially be revealed as a villain in a subsequent film.

In 2019, The Hollywood Reporter asked David Leitch - who directed Ryan Reynolds on both Deadpool 2 and Hobbs & Shaw - if there were any plans for Reynolds to play the Eteon director. His response was a definite shrug:

"I'll be honest: there's no final decision. I think we wanted to keep it open... We want this thing to live on for a while and we want these characters to have a lot of adventures. We felt simply, it's too soon to say, 'Here's our next adventure'.

There have also been rumors that Keanu Reeves was in talks to play the Eteon director in Hobbs & Shaw - which Leitch confirmed - so it's always possible that instead of Ryan Reynolds, the star of John Wick could be the obscure antagonist becomes. On the other hand, we know that both Reynolds and Hart will appear in the upcoming Dwayne Johnson spinoff, but there's no confirmation that it will have anything to do with Eteon (although that seems like a natural direction for the film).
