'The Flash' throws in the towel at the box office and offers 2-for-1 tickets just 10 days after its release.
After experiencing a downward spiral in its second weekend, 'The Flash' has little choice but to surrender and quietly go down in history as one of the biggest box office bombs of all time.
To put things into perspective, the two largest flops in cinema history are Disney's 'John Carter' and 'The Lone Ranger,' each accumulating losses of around $200 million. The Scarlet Speedster's solo debut carries a similar budget to those infamous failures and is following a similar trajectory in terms of its daily earnings. It appears that a new contender may soon join the ranks of financial hell.
The situation has become so dire that Fandango has already introduced a buy one get one free offer just 10 days into the film's theatrical run, desperately attempting to generate any semblance of business. This tactic is scraping the bottom of the barrel.
In fairness, it should be noted that the offer has already reached its maximum capacity. So, there are at least some people out there who have taken advantage of Fandango's offer and brought a friend along to see 'The Flash.' However, this is unlikely to stem the bleeding, especially considering the possibility that Andy Muschietti's superhero spectacle could finish the weekend in fourth place, suffering the steepest drop ever seen for a comic book adaptation in its second weekend.
