DC's year ends with "Aquaman 2: Lost Kingdom" in December 2023. The film continues the story of Arthur Curry, portrayed by Jason Momoa, while also concluding it after the introduction of the superhero in the successful 2018 film "Aquaman." According to director James Wan, the plot of the charming king of Atlantis is largely based on the 1960s comic "Planet of the Vampires" and will incorporate horror elements for the first time in the DC Universe. However, the sequel will also contain plenty of emotional elements, as Arthur's brother Orm transitions from being a villain to becoming a helper in the fight against Black Manta. Black Manta himself receives support, including from the conspiracy theorist Stephen Shin, portrayed by Randall Park.
Filming for "Aquaman: Lost Kingdom" has already been completed for some time, but the initial test screenings have received mixed reactions from audiences. It's worth noting that Amber Heard will reprise her role as Mera in the film. Whether the final product manages to captivate DC fans as the first installment did remains to be seen. The release date for "Aquaman 2: Lost Kingdom" is set for December 21, 2023.
