With "Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight," the next "Game of Thrones" spin-off is already confirmed. However, it is not intended to interfere with "House of the Dragon" - a difference will also be ensured.
HBO In an interview with the industry magazine Deadline, Francesca Orci, responsible for all HBO productions in the "Drama" department, provided an update on the "Game of Thrones" plans, particularly the upcoming spin-off "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight."
Based on the fantasy stories "The Hedge Knight" and "The Adventures of Dunk & Egg" by George R.R. Martin, the series will narrate the story of Ser Duncan the Tall (alias Dunk), a knight, and his young squire Aegon (alias Egg), who later becomes Aegon V Targaryen and has a significant impact on Westeros. Initially, the scripts for the first season were supposed to be in development, but due to the ongoing writers' strike in Hollywood, these works are currently on hold. Nevertheless, it will be the next spin-off, and there is already a clear plan in place.
THREE SMALLER SEASONS WITH LESS EPICNESS FOR "THE HEDGE KNIGHT" Francesca Orci confirms hints that author Martin made a while ago: "The Hedge Knight" will be produced for a total of three seasons. Each season will adapt one of the novellas. The first season will cover the titular "The Hedge Knight," the second season will be "The Sworn Sword," and the third season will be "The Mystery Knight." The seasons will be released on a yearly basis.
In Germany, all the novellas are available in the anthology "Der Heckenritter von Westeros: Das Urteil der Sieben" ("The Hedge Knight of Westeros: The Judgment of the Seven"):
"Der Heckenritter von Westeros: Das Urteil der Sieben" on Amazon* While Martin previously mentioned six episodes per season, Orci now states that the series will be smaller in scale than "House of the Dragon" and "Game of Thrones." This not only refers to the scope but also to other aspects.
The series will not be as CGI-heavy since, for example, there are no dragons. The events will take place in fewer locations, and everything will be smaller and more intimate. The series will be faster to produce, ensuring that it doesn't compete with "House of the Dragon" and provides a different viewing experience.
"THE HEDGE KNIGHT": 3 SEASONS ARE NOT NECESSARILY THE END Although initially only three seasons are planned for "The Hedge Knight," the series doesn't have to end there. They "definitely" want more. Martin is known to be considering additional novellas. If he decides to write them eventually, they will gladly consider them. However, for now, they are only focused on the three seasons.
Regarding the progress of other "Game of Thrones" projects, Orci did not disclose any details in the interview with Deadline. These projects are still at such an early stage that it is uncertain whether they will actually be realized. The same goes for the continuation of the main series with Kit Harrington as Jon Snow. They are still working on advancing it to a point where they can give it the green light, but they cannot promise anything at the moment.
As is known, HBO is concurrently developing numerous "Game of Thrones" ideas, but ultimately, only a few will be continued and produced.
